Sara Wiseman had her first Outward Bound experience at age 18 and loved it so much she’s been back twice since then.
When not doing Outward Bound courses Sara is an actor who has worked in film, television and theatre. Sara spent two years working as a stuntwoman on shows such as Xena and Hercules before acting. Why stuntwoman? Simply because she wanted to put "stuntwoman" on her papers going in and out of customs!
Sara was initially attracted to OB after seeing the transformation in her older brother. “I just knew it was something I had to do. It was so life transforming for me that 10 years later I felt a need to revisit the place. And yes, why not do it again but add the challenge of doing it in winter? Each time has been so incredibly special, the people I met and the discoveries made. It is quite impossible to express just how sacred Outward Bound, the place and journey are to me. It is without a doubt life changing.”
So what did Sara gain from her three OB experiences? “Illumination of spirit, courage, inner peace and connection, a skinnier body! Good friends, the chance to walk, run, swim, sail, climb, sleep and paddle in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. I would call Anakiwa Outward Bound a second home, with such welcoming passionate people who work and live there.”
Sara hopes that more New Zealanders come to experience what a rare jewel and treasure Outward Bound is. This is why she is so passionate about her role as OB Ambassador. People take away what they have gained, and in turn share their journey with others, and to encourage them to step up to the mark.
