Governance
Effective governance is crucial to the ongoing viability and longevity of Outward Bound.
Under the Trust’s Constitution, Outward Bound is governed by its financial members. These members are the backbone of Outward Bound, and at the Annual General Meeting, members elect up to 30 of their colleagues to Council, and up to six members to the Nominating Committee.
The role of Council is to protect and enhance the values and ethos of Outward Bound. In particular, the underlying educational philosophy that stands behind Kurt Hahn’s teachings. To achieve this, Council elects the Board of Directors of Outward Bound.
The Nominating Committee has the responsibility for recommending suitable candidates for Council and the Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors is responsible for the ongoing financial viability and business management of the Trust, taking into account the ethos and values of Outward Bound. The Board of Directors is responsible for appointing the CEO, who is delegated with the responsibility for the overall management, leadership and ongoing viability of Outward Bound New Zealand.
