Activate is a 8 day course for people over 18 years who have a physical disability. This is your opportunity to get outdoors and have your own Outward Bound experience in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. On Activate you will:

• boost your confidence and self-belief

• increase your motivation to try new experiences

• get outside your comfort zone and push your limits

• meet new people from around New Zealand and work as a team

• develop life skills like communication, leadership, teamwork, problem solving and more...

Participants

Activate is limited to 11 participants aged 18-80 years who have physical disability, including those who use manual wheelchairs (maximum 3 participants), crutches or walkers. To safely and fully participate in the course you must be:

• independent in all personal cares and transfers

• able to communicate verbally and have no intellectual disability

• able to attend without your own carer

• comfortable in water and getting your head underwater (wearing a life jacket)

Activities

All activities have been adapted to suit people who have a physical disability. In a safe and supportive environment you will try activities like:

• water activities - sailing, open-top kayaking or canoeing

• high up activities - high ropes course with belay support

• bush activities - camping outdoors

• fun team-building challenges and more...

Course fee and funding

The total course fee is $2,500 per person (incl GST) which includes:

• all food, accommodation and activities

• 3 Outward Bound Instructors and 3 volunteer support workers

• Work and Income funding - covers the course fee and travel costs for eligible clients
