Sample Activities on Custom Programmes

Experiential training is a learning method - learning through doing. Specific activities are carefully chosen for their ability to create learning situations that are highly relevant to the individual programme objectives. With skilful pre-activity framing and debriefing, these activities provide powerful learning experiences, enhancing individual and team performance back at work. Variety is guaranteed!

Team Initiatives (10 minutes to 1 1/2 hours)

There is a huge range of experiential team initiatives run indoors or outdoors. They can be anything from interactive puzzles, reflective exercises or role-plays. These are very time efficient activities that emphasise a point or key issues facing the team at work.

Rock Climbing (1/2 day)

On site at Anakiwa is a natural and picturesque rock face where participants work in interchangeable pairs. This activity has flexibility to provide challenges at a variety of levels. It requires trust and clear communication. It lends itself to learning themes around empowerment, individual responsibility and the value of trust.

Cutter Sailing (1/2 day–3 days)

We use 32-foot gaff rigged sailing cutters traditionally used to train sailors. This exercise provides a high degree of uncertainty and challenge. It requires coordination, problem solving and rapid decision-making. It lends itself to exploring leadership, role clarification and team culture.

Rope Challenge Course (1/2 day)

Set in a magnificent grove of native kahikatea trees, the high ropes course is designed to place people outside their comfort zone. It provides the platform for significant learning about self-limiting beliefs and stretch goals. It also offers the opportunity for groups and individuals to experience the importance of trust and support, and get a deeper understanding of how others operate. The activity can be conducted at night under floodlights for real atmosphere.

Bush Expeditions (1-3 days)

Using the bush, ridges and valley of the Queen Charlotte area provides challenging orientation journeys and problem-solving exercises using maps and compasses. This is a great way to test the team, build cohesion and explore different work styles. We deliver a wide variety of programmes which are tailored around programme themes.
