How did you fundraise for your course?
Part of the funds that I raised I earned from having a part time job, and some of it came from receiving donations from local businesses. The main bulk of it though came from a donation from my boss at my work.
How did you start the process (what was the first step to starting your fundraising)?
My first step in fundraising was talking to Sue (Outward Bound’s Funding Advisor) who gave me plenty of ideas for fundraising such as writing letters to local businesses, applying for rotary or lions scholarships, speaking to my employer and getting sponsorship forms from the local gaming venues. I tried to give all the ideas a go because I didn't really have anything to lose.
What was the biggest challenge when fundraising and how did you overcome it?
The biggest challenge was at the start thinking it seemed a bit far fetched that I would even get sponsored, let alone raise all of the money.
What advice can you give for people fundraising for their Outward Bound course?
Most people have a pretty good impression of Outward Bound and are more than happy to sponsor young people especially to go on a course. My best advice I could give to anybody who is fundraising is keep persevering because it is worth it 100% in the end.
