How did you fundraise for your course?
I approached family, done small jobs around my area like baby sitting, mowing lawns and milking cows, asked local organisations like the Rotary Club, Lions Foundation and YWCA for their support. I also got support from the oxford sports trust.
How did you start the process (what was the first step to starting your fundraising)?
First of all I wrote a letter to these local organisations stating who I am, where I come from, what Outward Bound is, why I am wanting to go, what I have done so far to help fundraise for the coarse, how much the course costs and then asked the organisation if they would be able to help support me to make this experience possible. Also started saving up my own money by doing small jobs around the place.
What was the biggest challenge when fundraising and how did you overcome it?
One of the biggest challenges when fundraising was finding out the organisations who would be willing to help me out to get to outward bound, I overcame this as I was surprised by the responses I received back from all of the organisations I applied too.
What advice can you give for people fundraising for their Outward Bound course?
Try to approach as many people and organisations as you can as most of my feedback from these people were very positive.
Make sure your covering letter you send to any organisations or people explains exactly what you are doing, what you are fundraising for, what you want to get out of the course and be willing to give your time back to them even if it is just a simple presentation to their club of your course after you have completed Outward Bound!
Any other comments/suggestions for fundraising
Family helped me out and Outward Bound helped me to get the Oxford Sports Trust funding they were also very helpful and easy to talk to! :)
