The Marlborough First Light Foundation was established following a 21 day Outward Bound Leadership Course at Anakiwa in the Marlborough Sounds.
This course prepared 14 young Marlburians from the course to return as a group to climb Mount Tapuae O Uenuke to potentially be the first in the world to see the first light of the new millennium on 1st January 2000.
So successful and inspirational was the challenge that their dream was for a fund to be established that would help to enable young Marlborough people to attend Outward Bound courses.
Their dream became a reality when the Marlborough First Light Foundation, a Charitable Trust, was formed.
The Marlborough First Light Foundation was established through generous grants from many individuals and the following organisations:
Blenheim Round Table
Marlborough District Council
Safe Air Limited
Mayfield Motors
Bayleys Real Estate
Allan Scott Wines and Estates
Rotary Club Blenheim South
