Aspire

Aspire is an 8 course suitable for people over 27 years who have mild physical impairment which requires a low impact experience. The course is designed for people who would be suitable for a standard adult course, but are unable to run or carry a heavy tramping pack. To safely and fully participate in the course you must be:

  • able to participate in a full day of activities (with rest breaks)
  • comfortably walk a minimum of 2kms and 2 flights of stairs - walking sticks okay
  • sit without back support, for example in a kayak
  • comfortable in water and getting your head under water (wearing a life jacket)

Past participants include people with arthritis, early onset multiple sclerosis, joint replacements, back injuries and amputations.

Just like any other Outward Bound course you will experience activities like sailing, rock climbing, kayaking and high ropes. This is your opportunity to get outdoors and feel the exhilaration of achieving more than you thought possible.

When you have lead a very active life and suddenly lose some of your physical strength it is a great loss of confidence, but the Aspire course gives you the tools to take charge of your life again and that anything can be possible.” Annette
