Insight is an 8 day course for people over 18 years who are blind or partially sighted. This is your opportunity to get outdoors and have your own Outward Bound experience in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. On Insight you will:

  • boost your confidence and self-belief

  • increase your motivation to try new experiences

  • get outside your comfort zone and push your limits

  • meet new people from around New Zealand and have fun!

Participants

Insight is limited to 12 participants aged 18-80 years who are blind or partially sighted. To safely and fully participate in the course you must be:

  • able to run 3km in under 25 minutes or work towards this before attending your course

  • comfortable in water and getting your head underwater (wearing a life jacket)

  • able to attend without your own support person or guide dog - you can bring your cane

Activities

In a safe and supportive environment you will try activities like:

  • water activities - sailing, kayaking, canoeing

  • high up activities - high ropes course, rock climbing, abseiling

  • bush activities - tramping, camping outdoors

  • fun team-building challenges and more...

Course fee 

You pay or fundraise $500 towards your total course fee ($2,370 incl GST) which includes:

  • all food, accommodation and activities

  • 3 Outward Bound Instructors and 2 RNZFB Recreation Advisors

Outward Bound sources funding for the rest of your course fee ($1,870 incl GST). You can apply to Outward Bound for financial assistance if you cannot fundraise all of your $500 contribution.

You also need to pay for your travel to and from Picton, where the course starts and ends.
