Connect

For ages 20+ Duration 8 days

Connect is specifically designed to build the skills and confidence of those working with young people.

This 8 day course offers a unique networking opportunity. It’s a chance to learn from peers in your sector, sharing your experiences and insights in a safe and supportive environment.

We’ll support you to understand your own strengths and areas for development whilst learning how to transfer new skills back to the workplace. You’ll leave feeling empowered, refreshed and with new strategies for building relationships and enhancing participation.

We are proud to be able to offer a huge subsidy of the course fee, meaning you only need to contribute $1000 towards this life-changing experience.

Please note, this course is offered at a heavily subsidized rate due to the generosity of our funders who are passionate about supporting youth development. You will be asked to provide evidence of your suitability to attend this course.

Check out our FAQs below for more information on the course and the experience required to apply.

The connections I made, the learning I took away and the collaboration of new ideas will empower me and assist the youth I work with.

This course has changed my life for the better. If only I did this course when I was 16 or 18. The confidence and direction gained would have made me achieve more than I already have today. I am certain of this.

FAQs

Some of our commonly asked questions answered...

Connect is suitable for those aged 20+ who are passionate and engaging with youth.

We require participants to have two or more years' experience working with youth in some capacity; as a teacher, youth worker, volunteer, Scout leader etc.

You will be asked to provide a brief explanation of experience to show eligibility.

You do not have to apply through your workplace to attend Connect and are welcome to apply as an individual. Simply choose your course date online and make a booking.

From there we will be in touch to discuss your experience in youth work and get you started on your adventure!

Connect still involves many of the classic Outward Bound activities, but focuses on the following course objectives and outcomes to support participants in working with youth.

  • Team development: Creating great group culture, building rapport and developing trust.
  • Communication: Listening, giving and receiving feedback, building empathy; by experiencing your own challenges and being part of a team.
  • Teaching and facilitation: You will experience what the Outward Bound instructors have to offer as well as the 13 other Youth workers.
  • Working safely with young people: You will reflect and discuss your own experiences throughout the course.
  • Personal skills: Self-awareness, confidence and motivation. Also considering your own values and how they guide your decisions and actions.

We understand it can be difficult to balance your commitments with a course. Try involving and engaging your employer in your Outward Bound programme. Explain what you'll get out of it and how your effectiveness at work should also improve.
