Meet the new instructors - Outward Bound

Meet the new instructors

Instructors

We've welcomed four new faces to the OB family. Freya, Seon, Kevin and Bernie have just completed their induction into the world of Outward Bound.

They come from a range of different backgrounds and will bring both depth and breadth to the Outward Bound whānau.

Introducing...

Instructors new2

Bernie, Seon, Freya and Kevin

Bernie Gunn

Bernie has been a farmer, a hunting guide in the Yukon (Canada) and a native tree nursery owner. He has always been passionate about the outdoors and has a strong background in personal development. As well as being a paragliding pilot he is now a strong kayaker and keen sailor. We can't wait to see him out in action on the water!

Seon Crockford-Laserer

Seon has been a professional yacht skipper for several years, most recently running a large catamaran touring the most remote and pristine surf breaks in the Pacific Ocean. Seon is a gifted athlete and picks up skills super fast! Since he arrived in New Zealand, he has developed a real passion for hunting and pack rafting on remote back country rivers. We welcome Seon, his wife Michaela and their one year old daughter Maya to our community.

Freya O’Donaghue

Freya has packed heaps into her 24 years - including circus school! She studied towards a Bachelor of Outdoor Education and Sustainability and went straight to working for Hillary Outdoors on Great Barrier Island. After spending four years in the role, she set off to travel around Europe and revisit her German roots. Freya skidded into Anakiwa at the last minute before induction and has been showing us how it's done for the last two months.

Kevin Rowley

Kevin is a 26 year old Irishman who has trained as both an outdoor educator and a psychotherapist. He comes with an ideal mix of skills and experience managing groups in the outdoors, and a deep knowledge of how to help people get the most out of life. He has been working diligently for a couple of years on getting to OB, from skill development to getting a work permit. He spent the time since arriving in New Zealand working his way around fishing boats and dairy farms.
